The menopause affects all women at some stage in their life at different severity levels.  The word menopause comes from two Greek words which mean “month” and “terminate”.

The menopause is defined by the natural cessation of the menstrual cycle and the ability to conceive a child.

A popular prescription medication is Hormone Replacement Therapy, however many people find the side effects of  Hormone Replacement Therapy can be worse than the Menopause itself, plus it comes with many associated health risks due to the fact that they are normally made up of synthetic components which are not natural to the human body.

Hormone Replacement Therapy may be administered in many ways depending on the type of product you are using – this is normally in the form of a tablet or a cream which you would apply to the vagina.  There are other solutions such as rings as well.

There are many documented risks associated with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), these include blood clots, ovarian and breast cancer, particularly when used for a long period of time.

The study in Hawaii however showed a very different picture – all the pill did was to prevent hot flashes!  There was so much evidence of bad press from this study that it was cut short prematurely.

The crucial factor is to understand the principle that there will always be safety question marks when one takes anything from a synthetic source in contrast to those that come from plants.

So the difference in this case is between natural hormones derived from plants and those made from horse urine and synthetic organisms.

The horse urine based prescription drug actually had the dangers listed in the small print literature accompanying the product for many years – basically the drawbacks and dangers had been known for a long time though aggressive marketing had convinced many that HRT would keep them healthy and youthful.

If a similar parallel study had been carried out on another group of women taking alternative natural supplements that produce estrogen, such as Mexican wild yam extracts, the benefits of using the natural route would probably have been much clearer and told a different story.
